The chronically backward Dachhan area though remote and landlocked has a unique distinction of being one of the beautiful valley in Kishtwar district. The area is not known for its picturesque surrounding and natural scenery only but can also boast of numerous places of worship which attract a large number of people from different areas irrespective of caste and creed thereby cementing further the bonds of mutual brotherhood and secular tradition of the people. Dacchan is known for its prominent shrines, like Hudh Mata, Trisandhiya and Brahamsar.

To reach these shrines stituated in Tehsil Dachhan, the route passes through the scenic spots, thick forests, lush green plateaus, bewitching water falls and numerous high land pastures against the backdrop of broad expanse of greeneries, towering snow capped peaks and turbulent glaciers which all together lend more charm and attraction to the festival. From Kishtwar yatries can go by bus upto Dhangdhooru and thereafter on foot upto Hudh Mata Bhawan which is about 40 kilometers.

The most prominent ancient Shrine Hudh Mata commands great respect in the Kishtwar district. The grand Yatra led by the holy mace of the goddess is taken out annually upto the temple from the Virat Mata Temple at Dilgoot Dachhan where the people from the other districts and adjoining villages assemble in large numbers for participation in the main Yatra.
Near the Hudh Mata  temple, there is a small cave down the hill, which has a narrow entrance, and inside it there is a hole in the rock through which a small cave is visible with milky water continuously dripping onto it from the curves of the rock above. It is quite amazing to know that the reflections of the images of various gods, and goddesses such as Lord Shiva, Maha Kali, Durga, Parvati and Ganesh Ji etc. can be seen differently by different people in the small lake. There is pitch darkness in the cave and to take a torch along with is very essential to have a look into the small lake. Near the cave there is the Garb Yoni" and to pass through its difficult curves is considered very auspicious for the attainment of the "Moksha". At the very entrance of the Garb Yoni is an image of elephant symbolizing the existence of Lord Ganesha.

Hudh Mata is also known as "Ahuti Mata" as according to a legend Lord Shiva is believed to have performed the last "Ahuti" of his consort Sati, who had set herself afire in the hawan kund notwithstanding the insult meted out to Lord Shiva by her father Daksh Parjapati by not inviting him to the Yajana.

At a distance of about 3 kms there is one more shrine known as "Trisandhiya" which is also one of the Goddessess of the Hindu mythology. Trisandhiya flows down from a height of 10,500 feet on the eastern side of the sickle moon mountain and towards the western side of Starchine. Its water flows from hilltop of 1200 feet in height in form of a fall. Water from the mountain touches the base of the hill but does not flow all the times in a normal way as in the case of other nallahas. It flows in a small stream and upto one a half kilometers when it merges with the main stream. Its characteristics are unique and mysterious which have not been explored by the scientist. Water fall of Trisandhiya is perennial and incessant but only starts to flow during three particular times during the day. One cannot see its water coming out of its base to its fall excepting as mentioned above. When the water of Trisandhiya dries up in its own stream after an hour or so it does not leave anywhere hollow water or shallow water in any curvy place in its path neither there will be any drop of water in the stream.

It is very sacred to have a dip in it and to see its water flowing. In local folklore, it is the Trisandhiya of Brahmaji, the Adidev who created the world. That is why highest mountain peak in the area which is about 21,500 feet high is called Brahma peak. There is also a peak of 18000 feet in height which is said to depict the image of Shivji (Shivling). It is always covered with thick snow, even in the hottest month of year. Some distance away from Trisandhiya there is another sacred place which is called "Doodh  Ganga". This place is situated in the middle of the ground of Satarchine Ground. There is a small lake in the middle of the ground and water springs up in the shape of fountain from the middle of it.

Some distance away another sacred place is situated which is called "Brahamsar" also known as pond of Brahma ji, which is at the height of 10,500 feet. It is on the foot of Brahma mountain. It is very big and deep lake of dark blue water. The mountain in all its grandeur is reflected in the lake. Some shepherds visiting this place occasionally say that some times it echoes with the sweet notes of drums, trumpets, which is all celestial music. People of the area regard the Brahma mountain as their guardian deity. They invoke the pleasure of the deity to grant them peace and prosperity.

Hudh Mata Bhawan

So many people go there but due to non-availability of motorable road to Illaqa Dachhan they have to face some difficulties. However, during the period of yatra the Hudh Mata Managing Committee arranges a free langer for the yatries and they have also constructed Sarai at Gookoot for accommodating the yatries during the yatra.

Tourist Industry is a big source of income for our country. Such places should be developed and linked by way of motorable road as far as possible to attract the tourist in times to come.
